League Lines - January 2014

January means Annual Meeting and election of officers and board of directors. We have a terrific program planned with Anne Galloway from VTDigger.org, Jon Gailmor talking about songwriting (and singing a bit?), and Chris Tebbetts on collaboration and ghost writing. Should be an awesome day!


This month's program is at the Double Tree Hotel, 1117 Williston Road, in South Burlington, VT. (about a block East of Exit 14 off I-89)

Registration begins with our Writers' Meet & Greet at 8:30 am. Annual Meeting is 9 am, and speakers follow starting at 9:30 am. As always, we'll be served a continental breakfast during our Meet & Greet, and luncheon included in the cost of the meeting.

Fees: League members, $48; Nonmembers, $55

The 2013 Fall Program features Elizabeth Bluemle (Writing and Selling Children's Books); Bill Schubart (The Changing World of Writing and Publishing); and Louella Bryant (Be an Accomplished Thief -- Writing Characters from Life Experience. With practice session, so bring paper and pencil!).

This month's program is at the Best Western Hotel just off Route 100 in Waterbury (45 Blush Hill Road, Waterbury). Registration begins with Meet & Greet at 8:30 am. Elizabeth Bluemle, 9:30 am; Bill Schubart, 11:00 am; Louella Bryant, 1:00 pm.

Speakers include Peter J. Mongeau, founder and publisher of Tuscany Press in Cambride, Mass; Eric Rickstad, novelist, teacher, New York Times Noteworthy Author, and founder of the Northshire Writers Workshop in Manchester; and James M. Tabor, best-selling author of fiction and non-fiction books.

This month's League Lines has recaps from the January Program, information about getting involved in the 2012 Burlington Book Festival, and rules and guidelines for submitting to the League's Inaugural Literary Competition, The Vermont Prize 2012.

The Spring Program, taking place on April 28, 2012 at the Howe Center in Rutland, includes a mini-workshop on First Pages with Jo Knowles, a tutorial on crafting clear and effective Query Letters for pitching your non-fiction book with Sharon Faelten, and a look at both traditional and new Publishing Paradigms offered by Vermont's Wind Ridge Publishing headquartered in Shelburne.
