About LVW Board Members Secretary: Julia Hoover

Secretary: Julia Hoover

I have always had a wide variety of interests, but they tend towards three things: science, history, and child development. I therefore received BA's at Wellesley in European History and Biology and went on to Harvard to get a Master's in Cognitive Development / Mind, Brain & Education. Throughout my studies, I always enjoyed writing. My interests in brain development led me to apply to medical school, so I studied for the examinations while teaching science at a rural high school in Arkansas. There, I met my current husband. I was accepted at UVM and came to VT to pursue a path towards pediatric neuroradiology. I worked in my residencies in both pediatrics and radiology for several years, but medical concerns forced me from medicine last year; I have since completed the first novels in a historical fantasy series that takes place in Europe and focuses on power and love within an unusual family with Angelic and time-traveling abilities — and rather unusual responsibilities. I am now addicted to writing and look forward to working with the LVW!

THE VERMONT TRADITION grapples energetically with the basic problem of human conduct...how to reconcile the needs of the group, of which every man or woman is a member,..with the craving for individual freedom to be what he really is.

—Dorothy Canfield Fisher, 1953
